TIGER TALES

"tiger tales" (ehem. "blow up!") ist Österreichs 1. Band, die deep funk und old school soul auf Grundlage der rare soul und funk Stücke der 60/70er in zeitgemäßer Form spielt. Mit dem Mix von sorgfältig ausgewählten Stücken aus der DJ-Plattensammlung und eigenen Kompositionen hat die Band innerhalb des ersten Jahres die angesagtesten Locations in Wien vom Birdland bis hin zum Porgy&Bess im Sturm erobert.
In anderen Ländern wird der alternative retro-sound bereits von Bands wie Quantic Soul Orchestra, Bamboos, Nicole Willis, Sharon Jones, Sweet Vandals etc. ausgiebig praktiziert. Auch tiger tales platziert sich in diese Nische, allerdings ohne dabei einer stilistischen Imitation zu erliegen.
Vielmehr setzt die Band bei den eigenen Stücken auf einen individuellen Ansatz, der teilweise deep funk breaks nahtlos mit high energy 60s soul vermischt, und durch die eigenwilligen Texte und ausgefallenen dynamischen Arrangements deutlich eine unverwechselbare Handschrift erkennen läßt. Neben einem druckvollen Groove wird besonders Wert auf die Kraft und Aussage des Songs und seiner Hooks gelegt.
Ihre 1. Single "Feels Good But It`s Not" - die erste österreichische alternative retro 7" Soul Single Österreichs - hat seit ihrem Release am 1. November im Salon Leopold aufgrund ihrer musikalischen Qualität bereits einiges mediales Aufsehen erregt, von Features in heimischen Radios wie Superfly, FM4 und Ö3 bis hin zu Fernsehbeiträgen in der ORF ZiB 24, im a.viso und auf Puls TV.

PLAZMATIKON

Plazmatikon ist ein einzigartiges Soundsystem. Ihre Musik basiert auf
der Gegenwart, eine Mischung aus Broken Beat, Lounge, Nu Jazz und
Avant-Pop, performt in improvisierter Form mit Instrumenten "Made in"
Sowjetunion, DDR und Polen... Plazmatikon vereint Elemente aus der
Club-Szene mit experimenteller Improvisations-Musik. Die Musiker
verwenden Beatmaschinen und Synthesizer der legendären Hersteller
“Elektronika” (USSR), “Vermona” (DDR) und “Unitra” (PL). Das Publikum
bekommt die einmalige Gelegenheit, wie sich gegenwärtige moderne Musik
vor 30 Jahren angehört haben könnte.

Die Band ist permanent auf Tour, spielen in den besten polnischen Clubs
und auf diversen Festivals, wie z.B. "Od Nowa" Jazz Festival in Torun,
dem Mazzol's "Art Depot” Festival für Improvisations-Musik, dem Free
Form Festival (Support für Coldcut) und weiteren. Im Jahre 2006 bekamen
Plazmatikon die einmalige Gelegenheit mit bekannten Jazz- und
Klezmer-Künstlern (bekannt für zahlreiche Projekte u.a John Zorn), wie
Paul Brody, Frank London, Michael Alpert und Stuart Brotman zu
kooperieren. Dies war auch Inspiration für ihr neuestes Album, welches
auszugsweise am 27.03. im Ragnarhof präsentiert wird.

What would be the sound of broken-beat, lounge, nu-jazz, avant-pop if it had
been invented in one of the countries closed behind the iron curtain in the
70s and 80s?

25 years ago in countries of Eastern Europe and in the Soviet Union there were
loads of electronic instruments and beat machines. So we created a
soundsystem based on these lousy sounds... And the effect is outstanding,
energetic and experimental. Plazmatikon puts together elements of clubbing
and improvisation. For three years now we had played over 100 gigs in Poland,
Berlin and Prague, incl. on festivals such as Free Form Festival in Warsaw
(with Coldcut) and Live Coke Festival in Krakow (incl. Faithless, Common). We
also released an EP and an LP and our music was included on last year's
Europavox compilation and this year on the Soundwave of Warszawa compilation.

In 2006 Plazmatikon had unique chance to cooperate with famous jazz and
klezmer artitsts (known from many projects incl. John Zorn's), such as Paul
Brody, Frank London, Michael Alpert, Stuart Brotman. That was our inspiration
for the new record, extracts from which you will be able to hear first time
on our concert.
